YANGON -- More people in Myanmar have taken part in microsoft-certified exams as the internationally- recognized certificates could help them to get good jobs in the information technology (IT) industry including overseas, the local weekly Myanmar Times reported Monday.
The average number of candidates increased to 300 a month this year from 10 a month in 2004, the report said, adding that about 150 microsoft-certified exams are available.
According to the report, the opportunity to take part in the exam locally has also contributed to the increasing number of exam takers as previously people had to travel to other countries such as Singapore and Thailand to sit for the exam, which made it more costly and time-consuming.
The report also said that another factor boosting the intake was that successful candidates could get a good IT-related job abroad.
People going to Singapore mostly work as support technicians network security and specialists, it added.
In the past few decades, Myanmar has been encouraging its people to work overseas as part of its bid to ease domestic employment problem, and thousands of Myanmar job seekers worked in Asian countries such as Malaysia, South Korea, Singapore and Japan.
Meanwhile, people in Myanmar have been urged to strive for the development of IT to contribute its part to the national economic development.
