Body of Missing South Salt Lake Girl Discovered Amber Alert Issued for Missing South Salt Lake Girl Full Press Conference: Hser Nar Moo Amber Alert

SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah -- The body of a 7-year-old girl was found Tuesday night in an apartment in the same complex where her family lives, and five people were taken into custody.

The body of Hser Nay Moo showed evidence of trauma, said South Salt Lake Police Chief Chris Snyder. She was found in a bathroom in the apartment after FBI agents obtained permission to search the unit, he said.

"Our hearts and our sympathies go out to the family," he said. "It's a tragic ending to this case."

The names of the people taken into custody on suspicion of homicide were not released, nor was it known if they had any link to the girl's family.

Hser had been the subject of an extensive search Tuesday. An Amber Alert had been issued, and more than 600 people were looking for her.

She was last seen leaving the South Parc apartment complex Monday afternoon after an argument with her 10-year-old brother.

Hser's father, Cartoon Wah, through an interpreter, told The Salt Lake Tribune that he saw Hser leave the apartment and walk south. He said his daughter didn't respond when he asked where she was going.

He described his daughter as smart and skilled.

Wah, a Burmese immigrant who came to the United States last year, has five children. Hser was his only daughter.

"We came from Burma where we had a lot of trials in our past life," he said earlier in the day. "Then we come to America and it happens again."
